United Way of Brevard Funding Boasts
Local Impact of Nearly $20 Million!
United Way of Brevard’s Board of Directors recently approved funding recommendations for local health and human service programs. Grants made for the 2010-2011 cycle will enable funding for more than 67 programs at 42 non-profit organizations here in our community. Slightly more than $5 Million was made available to local agencies thanks to the successful 2009 United Way Campaign through both designated and undesignated giving combined. These funds will provide critical local match dollars for many United Way-funded programs, helping them to draw down additional state and federal dollars. This leveraging factor creates nearly $20 Million in impact on needs here in Brevard.
“We’re pleased to be able to make possible this critical funding at a time when our community needs it most,” commented Rob Rains, President of United Way of Brevard. “We truly appreciate all those who came forward last fall to support us and gave from their hearts to help others.”The annual Community Impact Fund Distribution Process officially began this past March with more than 100 volunteers earnestly focused on making the best possible funding decisions. These volunteers committed just over 3,600 hours of service doing everything from setting impact-targeted funding amounts and reviewing agency financials, to participating in site visits and agency presentations.
“Our volunteers are extremely dedicated and truly take their responsibility to heart,” stated Renee’ Valletutti, United Way Board Member, and Vice Chair for Community Impact. “As we worked to finalize the re-design of our annual fund distribution process this year, they worked diligently to tie funding to our United Way priorities; the return on investment each program would provide to our donors; and the measurable difference each of them would make in positively impacting the growing needs in our community. It’s a daunting task.” Most of the agencies receiving program funding from United Way of Brevard fell into one of four areas – Basic Needs/Financial Stability; Childhood Success; Health, Wellness and Safety; or Life Services for Persons with Disabilities. For the first time in its history, United Way of Brevard also granted multi-year contracts to eight agencies.
