The team at FLORIDA TODAY launched their campaign in true island style with a breakfast luau, kicking off two fun-filled weeks with many team-building activities. Some of their planned activities include a “Flip-Flop Friday” where employees were able to pay to wear flip flops; Hawaii 5-0, a chance to win $50 in gas; a garage sale, a ONE more bake sale; A “Pig” roast; Beach Blanket Bingo; and a best-of-show department contest.

Every year, during their United Way campaign, American Business Interiors finds other ways to get their employees engaged in the spirit of community support. This year, they asked their employees to donate new or gently used books for children. These books will support Early Learning Coalition’s mission of giving a book (for keeps!) to each child that comes through their doors. Thank you ABI for your amazing enthusiasm and support!!

On behalf of the entire AT&T team, Tim Davis (right), who serves our Employee Campaign Manager, recently presented a $9,000 check to president Rob Rains (left) and vice-president, resource development Susan McGrath (center). This gift represents a 50 percent increase in AT&T’s corporate giving for our 2009 campaign! “We are grateful to the employees of AT&T for their continued support,” said McGrath. “This increased corporate gift sets a positive pace for their employee campaign, which kicks off in late September. Hundreds of families will receive critical help because of AT&T’s generosity.”
Watch here for additional updates from other 2009 Pacesetter Organizations (those groups making their pledges to United Way now – before we kick-off on September 17th). We are well on our way to achieving our goal in this first phase of the Community Campaign!

Wuesthoff wrapped up their 2009 campaign with a celebration and prizes!! Incorporating incentives into their campaign helped them to achieve a nearly 10% increase in employee giving! Employees who contributed to the campaign were all eligible for a drawing to win fantastic prizes including restaurant gift cards, VISA gift cards and the grand prize – 37” flat panel HD Television!!! Congratulations to the winners and a huge THANK YOU to all of Wuesthoff for their tremendous support!!

The leaders of Publix Super Markets recently launched their 2009 campaign with an amazing Gilligan's Island-themed event. Area store managers and our three District Managers Daryl Gilbert (Pirate), Pat McGowan (Pilot) and Jim Sheppard (Pilot) joined Regional Director Sam Pero (Captain) for a tongue-in-cheek "three-hour tour" of all things United Way that featured information about how Publix Associates can change their communities through generous support of our work. The journey ended with a heart-felt appeal to the entire management team to consider a Leadership gift to set the pace for their store campaigns. Here in Brevard, our 22 area stores raised more than $645,000 in 2008, our second largest gift for the year! With leaders willing to "set sail" for their Associates, we know Publix will again surpass their goal of making a tremendous impact in Brevard in 2009!

Thanks to a special effort at United Space Alliance by Jimmy Rudolph and the USA One Fund Board, leadership gifts increased over 100% in the 2008 campaign. Leadership gifts are generous personal gifts of $500 or more annually. Our Leadership donors understand that approaching community issues on a united front provides the greatest level of impact, and that inspiring others to join them in lifting up those less fortunate is of utmost importance. Leadership giving offers the chance to be a part of something much greater than any single donor can achieve alone.
